NT Handbook contribution 22.11.2019
A significant feature in the rural environment of the village of
Allerford is the Community Hall and Recreational Grounds.
Visitors to the village have been heard to describe the Hall as the
gateway to paradise. That reference encompasses the feelings of
visitors engaged in walking and exploring in and around Allerford
Woods, Bossington Hill, Hurlstone Point, Selworthy Beacon and
Holnicote Coombe, and those adventurers participating in a range
of multi participant sports events such as classic car motor rallying
on Exmoor National Park, trail running and mountain bike events.
The area is a best kept secret yet these places and events attract
national and international visitors and participants, and they
return to the beauty of Allerford time and time again.
Visitors and holiday makers in search of more leisurely activities
may also take advantage of events organised within and around
the Community Hall itself. Currently there are Tai Chi, Yoga and
keep fit classes in addition to craft mornings, library, bingo and
monthly cinema. Visitors who get the timing right are also most
welcome at community events such as the Big Cream Tea; the Big
Breakfast, Summer Fair, Barn Dance; Harvest Supper and
